About Us

The Tasmanian Centre for Dramatic Arts (TCDA) is Tasmania’s leading institution dedicated to the craft of performance. Based in the heart of Hobart, we are proud to be a hub for aspiring actors, creators, and storytellers across the state. At TCDA, we don’t just teach acting—we cultivate artists with vision, discipline, and bold creative voices. Our community is one of collaboration, exploration, and support, where every student is encouraged to push boundaries and grow into their own unique potential.

What We Offer

Our comprehensive training covers all core elements of performance, including stage and screen acting, voice and speech, movement, improvisation, and devised theatre. Each discipline is taught by experienced professionals who bring both passion and real-world knowledge into the classroom.

In addition to technical skills, we place strong emphasis on creative exploration, ensuring that students not only learn how to perform but how to create and shape original work. Our curriculum is designed to build confidence, presence, and the practical tools needed to thrive in today’s performance industry.

Our Approach

At TCDA, we believe that the best performers are those who understand their craft from the inside out. That’s why our approach is hands-on, immersive, and grounded in collaboration. Training is intensive and rewarding, with a focus on both artistic integrity and professional readiness.

We foster a learning environment that encourages experimentation and risk-taking while offering clear, structured guidance. Our students learn by doing—from participating in ensemble work to engaging in solo performance, script analysis, and devising their own original pieces.

Real-World Experience

One of our core strengths is our strong connection to the industry. Students benefit from regular public showcases, community theatre partnerships, and access to visiting professionals from across Australia and beyond. These experiences allow students to test their skills, build networks, and gain valuable insight into working life as a performer.

We’re not just preparing students for the stage—we’re preparing them for a sustainable, fulfilling career in the arts.

Why Choose TCDA?

If you’re passionate about performance and looking for a place to grow, TCDA offers the training, support, and opportunity you need. We welcome individuals from all walks of life who share a commitment to storytelling and artistic expression.
